The Problem

Tribal Scale, a global integration firm, wanted to create a new design agency within the firm to allow it to better utilize its existing designers to attract new clients and build new revenue streams.

The Solution

I designed a website that showcases Tribal Scale's design services,  including its customer references, case studies and team skill. The agency is called “Tribal Design”. Through competitive analysis I identified new package service offerings with price points to help new clients get started with the firm and generate new revenue streams.

Stakeholder Discovery Call & Interview

During a discovery call with the firm's Director of Design, it became clear that Tribal Scale wanted its website to attract more design-focused work.

I prepared an interview questionnaire to further investigate and discovered that Tribal Scale:

  • Would like a competitor analysis to determine what design services they should promote.

  • Is unsure what content to display on a new design website.

  • Wants to turn their design department into a revenue generating group.

How I did it ...

User Interviews

I recruited and interviewed 8 users for this project. They were between the ages of 30 and 45 years old. Half of them were entrepreneurs that already had a website or mobile app designed by an agency, and the other half were people interested in finding an agency/designer to design a website/app for them. The fact that these users have either gone through the process of picking an agency or are prospects, makes their knowledge and insight especially valuable for this project. Learning what content these users expected to see in a design agency website was the key finding. Below is a list of the content they are expecting to see when they open a design agency's website.

  • A portfolio page showcasing its previous works.

  • A Team page with information about the design team's members.

  • A list of design services offered.

  • A list of clients the agency has worked with in the past.

Competitor Research

Tribal Research provided a list of 10 competing design agencies whose websites they believed were effective.  Given the firm's specific focus on digital design for this project, I limited my in depth analysis to the 5 digital agencies on the foregoing list.  I examined these 5 websites in detail and listed their relevant content.  In addition, I listed their various design service offerings.  The charts display the content and services I identified.

Compiling these charts helped me determine the necessary content to allow Tribal Scale's website to outshine the competition.

From my analysis, I concluded that design agency websites all have the same basic content; Content absent from many of the websites included testimonials, industries served, process, careers and awards.  The inclusion of these latter areas were critical to my design of a Tribal Research website which emphatically illustrates its Design Services.

Packages

As apart of the project, I create a packaged services offerings page that included a detailed description of each service at a competitive price point and timeframe.

UI Design

For the Hi-Fi wireframes, I kept the same color palette that Tribal Scale already used in the firm's existing website. This would maintain uniformity and consistency with its existing clients and would deliver a clean look for new potential clients. The top navigation bar and the layout of the sections within the pages were optimized based on user feedback.

With a 2-level site map, the final website provides a easy to navigate site in which one can learn about Tribal Scale's design offerings in a quick and efficient manner. Micro-interactions and animations were also added to the elements across the entire page to make the experience more engaging for future clients. Check out the Prototype below!
